A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Foundation Xen 4.0/4.2/4.3/4.4 (Virtualization Software). This affects the function HVMOP_track_dirty_vram. Race condition in HVMOP_track_dirty_vram in Xen 4.0.0 through 4.4.x does not ensure possession of the guarding lock for dirty video RAM tracking, which allows certain local guest domains to cause a denial of service via unspecified vectors.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at xenbits.xen.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:

There is no mitigation available for this issue. (The security of a Xen system using stub domains is still better than with a qemu-dm running as an unrestricted dom0 process. Therefore users with these configurations should not switch to an unrestricted dom0 qemu-dm.)
