}The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78042 (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / 12.04 LTS / 14.04 LTS : file vulnerability (USN-2369-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Ubuntu Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 236004 (Red Hat Update for file (RHSA-2016:0760)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 16938.
