The DNS inspection engine in Cisco ASA Software 9.0 before 9.0(4.13), 9.1 before 9.1(5.7), and 9.2 before 9.2(2) allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device reload) via crafted DNS packets, aka Bug ID CSCuo68327.

The weakness was disclosed 10/08/2014 with Cisco as cisco-sa-20141008-asa as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-3388 since 05/07/2014. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78240 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 43423 (Multiple Vulnerabilities in Cisco ASA Software (cisco-sa-20141008-asa)).
