A vulnerability has been found in Apple Mac OS X up to 10.9.3 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component LoginWindow. Race condition in LoginWindow in Apple OS X before 10.10 allows physically proximate attackers to obtain access by leveraging an unattended workstation on which screen locking had been attempted.
The weakness was released 10/16/2014 by Harry Sintonen, Alessandro Lobina and Patryk Szlagowski as HT6535 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-4438 since 06/20/2014. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. A race condition existed in LoginWindow, which would sometimes prevent the screen from locking.
