A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in CA ARCserve Backup up to r16 (Backup Software). Affected is an unknown function of the component RPC requests parser. The server in CA ARCserve Backup r12.5, r15, and r16 on Windows does not properly process RPC requests, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service via a crafted request.

The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2971 since 05/30/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult.
