The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-6336 since 09/11/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79827 (MS14-075: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange Server Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (3009712)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 74274 (Microsoft Exchange Server Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities (MS14-075)).

Applying the patch MS14-075 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 17128.
