It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:
When "Proxy ARP" or "No Broadcast" features are enabled in a clustered WLC setup, a network adjacent attacker with access to the local WiFi network may cause a WLC device to disconnect from the cluster causing a denial of service condition for the wireless access points.
The advisory illustrates:
This issue can not be exploited remotely over the Internet as access to the local WiFi network is essential to trigger this condition.
Upgrading to version 8.0.4, 9.0.2.11, 9.0.3.5 or 9.1.1 eliminates this vulnerability. It is possible to mitigate the problem by applying the configuration setting Disable Proxy ARP + No Broadcast.
