Details
A vulnerability was found in IBM Security AppScan Enterprise up to 9.0.1 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component RC4 Encryption. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
The RC4 algorithm, as used in the TLS protocol and SSL protocol, has many single-byte biases, which makes it easier for remote attackers to conduct plaintext-recovery attacks via statistical analysis of ciphertext in a large number of sessions that use the same plaintext.
The weakness was disclosed 12/17/2014 by Paul as swg21693035 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at www-01.ibm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-2566. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78155 (F5 Networks BIG-IP : TLS/SSL RC4 vulnerability (K14638)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family F5 Networks Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91499 (Microsoft Azure Stack 1809 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (82884), Tenable (78155), SecurityFocus (BID 58796†), SecurityTracker (ID 1031427†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-39042†). The entries VDB-4431, VDB-7953, VDB-10710 and VDB-10696 are pretty similar. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
