Details
A vulnerability has been found in Oracle Database Server 11.1.0.7/11.2.0.2/11.2.0.3 (Database Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Security Service. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
The SSL protocol, as used in certain configurations in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and other products, encrypts data by using CBC mode with chained initialization vectors, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain plaintext HTTP headers via a blockwise chosen-boundary attack (BCBA) on an HTTPS session, in conjunction with JavaScript code that uses (1) the HTML5 WebSocket API, (2) the Java URLConnection API, or (3) the Silverlight WebClient API, aka a "BEAST" attack.
The weakness was released 10/15/2013 as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - October 2013 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at oracle.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-3389 since 09/05/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68373 (Oracle Linux 5 / 6 : java-1.6.0-openjdk (ELSA-2011-1380) (BEAST)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91499 (Microsoft Azure Stack 1809 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
