Apple Mac OS X 10.8.5/10.9.5/10.10/10.10.1 cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Apple Mac OS X 10.8.5/10.9.5/10.10/10.10.1 (Operating System). Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-310. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

The SSL protocol 3.0, as used in OpenSSL through 1.0.1i and other products, uses nondeterministic CBC padding, which makes it easier for man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain cleartext data via a padding-oracle attack, aka the "POODLE" issue.

The weakness was published 01/27/2015 by Krzysztof Kotowicz with Google Security Team as HT204244 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-3566. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue. The advisory points out:

Multiple vulnerabilities existed in OpenSSL 0.9.8za. These issues were addressed by updating OpenSSL to version 0.9.8zc.

It is declared as attacked. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80921 (Amazon Linux AMI : java-1.7.0-openjdk (ALAS-2015-471) (POODLE)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86129 (IBM WebSphere Application Server Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21697368)-Deprecated).

Upgrading to version 10.10.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Zero-Day.cz (308), Tenable (80921), SecurityFocus (BID 70574†) and Secunia (SA61825†). Additional details are provided at us-cert.gov. Similar entries are available at VDB-67791, VDB-68000, VDB-68040 and VDB-68743. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
