OpenSSL before 0.9.8zc, 1.0.0 before 1.0.0o, and 1.0.1 before 1.0.1j does not properly enforce the no-ssl3 build option, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via an SSL 3.0 handshake, related to s23_clnt.c and s23_srvr.c.

This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-3568 since 05/14/2014. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Multiple vulnerabilities existed in OpenSSL 0.9.8za. These issues were addressed by updating OpenSSL to version 0.9.8zc.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78485 (Amazon Linux AMI : openssl (ALAS-2014-427)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185091 (HP-UX Running OpenSSL Multiple Vulnerabilities (HPSBUX03162) (POODLE)).
Upgrading to version 10.10.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
