A vulnerability has been found in PHP (Programming Language Software) (version now known) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component pgsql. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability.

The weakness was disclosed 01/08/2015 by Xinchen Hui as Fixed bug #68739 #68740 #68741 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at git.php.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-1352 since 01/24/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82856 (Amazon Linux AMI : php54 (ALAS-2015-509)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 10005 (PHP Prior to 5.6.8/5.5.24/5.4.40 Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities).

Applying the patch Fixed bug #68739 #68740 #68741 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.php.net. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (100965), Tenable (82856), SecurityFocus (BID 71932†), SecurityTracker (ID 1031757†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-53063†).
