Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.5 uses weak permissions for the Operational log, which allows local users to discover credentials by reading this file, aka "Password Disclosure Vulnerability."
The issue has been introduced in 07/22/2009. The weakness was shared 11/13/2012 by Justin Royce with ProDX as MS12-073 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2531 since 05/09/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
