A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Eye Eye-Fi Helper. This issue affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Eye-Fi Helper before 3.4.23 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to create arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the filesignature in a GetPhotoStatus request.
The weakness was presented 03/03/2014 by Paul (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-4696 since 12/08/2011. The attack needs to approached within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
