A vulnerability was found in Apache Struts up to 2.3.15.0 (Programming Tool Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component CookieInterceptor. CookieInterceptor in Apache Struts before 2.3.16.2, when a wildcard cookiesName value is used, does not properly restrict access to the getClass method, which allows remote attackers to "manipulate" the ClassLoader and execute arbitrary code via a crafted request. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2014-0094.

The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 2.3.15.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13894.
