Tweepy does not verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject s Common Name (CN) or subjectAltName field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate, related to use of the Python httplib library.

The weakness was released 11/14/2012 as 349780 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared for download at freecode.com. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-5825 since 11/04/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
