Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in MediaWiki up to 1.20 (Content Management System). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component CentralAuth Extension. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a session fixiation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-384. Authenticating a user, or otherwise establishing a new user session, without invalidating any existing session identifier gives an attacker the opportunity to steal authenticated sessions. Session fixation vulnerability in the CentralAuth extension for MediaWiki before 1.18.6, 1.19.x before 1.19.3, and 1.20.x before 1.20.1 allows remote attackers to hijack web sessions via the centralauth_Session cookie.
The weakness was released 06/02/2014 as Bug 40962 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.wikimedia.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-5395 since 10/17/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
