A vulnerability was found in McAfee Gateway 7.0/7.0.1/7.0.2 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component Email Gateway. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The weakness was disclosed 11/30/2012 by Oliver R. Gruskovnjak with Portcullis Computer Security Ltd as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at kc.mcafee.com. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 7.0.2) eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch Hotfix 116/7.0.2 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at mcafee.com.
