A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in VLC Media Player 2.0.4 (Multimedia Player Software). This affects an unknown part of the file libavformat/swfdec.c of the component SWF Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Multiple buffer overflows in VideoLAN VLC media player 2.0.4 and earlier allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and execute arbitrary code via vectors related to the (1) freetype renderer and (2) HTML subtitle parser.
The weakness was released 12/07/2012 by Kaveh Ghaemmaghami (coolkaveh) as 96 as confirmed posting (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The public release happened without involvement of VLC. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-1868 since 02/19/2013. The exploitability is told to be difficult.
