A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Advantech WebAccess 7.2 (SCADA Software). This issue affects an unknown code block. The manipulation of the argument password with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in Advantech WebAccess (formerly BroadWin WebAccess) 7.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via the password parameter.
The weakness was presented 09/20/2014 by Ricardo Narvaja (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ics-cert.us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-0992 since 01/07/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122591 (Advantech WebAccess Multiple Vulnerabilities).
