The rfbProcessClientNormalMessage function in libvncserver/rfbserver.c in LibVNCServer 0.9.9 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (divide-by-zero error and server crash) via a zero value in the scaling factor in a (1) PalmVNCSetScaleFactor or (2) SetScale message.
The weakness was disclosed 10/06/2014 by Nicolas Ruff as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at ocert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-6054 since 09/01/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79188 (CentOS 6 / 7 : libvncserver (CESA-2014:1826)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168339 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for LibVNCServer (SUSE-SU-2015:2088-2)).
