The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK. OSVDB critizises: "The original report appears to conclude that the described crash is 'exploitable' solely based on use of the !exploitable Crash Analyzer, part of the MSEC Debugger Extensions (http://msecdbg.codeplex.com/). Use of a crash analyzer without additional research in determining the existance of a vulnerability and ist exploitability is prone to false positives, sometimes flagging a crash as 'exploitable' that is not so."
A public exploit has been developed by Jean Pascal Pereira and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1751 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (80750), SecurityFocus (BID 57002†) and OSVDB (88539†). packetstormsecurity.org is providing further details. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
