A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Novell NetIQ 2.3.0/2.3.1. This affects the function pa_modify_accounts in the library auth.dll of the file unifid.exe of the component Privileged User Manager. The pa_modify_accounts function in auth.dll in unifid.exe in NetIQ Privileged User Manager 2.3.x before 2.3.1 HF2 does not require authentication for the modifyAccounts method, which allows remote attackers to change the passwords of administrative accounts via a crafted application/x-amf request.
The weakness was released 11/15/2012 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) as confirmed exploit (Website). The advisory is shared at retrogod.altervista.org. The public release was coordinated with Novell. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-5930 since 11/20/2012. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
