A vulnerability was found in Zoho ManageEngine Desktop Central (Endpoint Management Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code. The manipulation of the argument fileName with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. The weakness was shared 10/21/2014 by Pedro Ribeiro (Website). The advisory is shared for download at raw.githubusercontent.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-5005 since 07/18/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
