A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Nagios 2.0.2 (Log Management Software). This issue affects an unknown functionality in the library lib/parse_ini.c of the component Configuration File. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-59. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. lib/parse_ini.c in Nagios Plugins 2.0.2 allows local users to obtain sensitive information via a symlink attack on the configuration file in the extra-opts flag. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2014-4701.
The weakness was shared 12/05/2014 by Dawid Golunski (Website). The advisory is shared at nagios-plugins.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-4703 since 06/30/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
