The weakness was published 01/10/2013 by Jose Antonio Vazquez Gonzalez (Inferno) with iDEFENSE Labs as 165864 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at code.google.com. The public release has been coordinated with Google. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-5147 since 09/24/2012. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. Upgrading to version 24.0.1312.52 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at trac.webkit.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
