A vulnerability was found in Adobe Acrobat Reader up to 10.1.12/11.0.9 on Windows/Mac (Document Reader Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code in the library CoolType.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. CoolType.dll in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 10.x before 10.1.13 and 11.x before 11.0.10 on Windows, and 10.x through 10.1.13 and 11.x through 11.0.10 on OS X, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted PDF document.

The weakness was published 01/30/2015 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as APSB15-10 / 149 (Website). The advisory is shared at code.google.com. The public release happened without involvement of Adobe. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-9161 since 12/01/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
