A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Attachmate Reflection FTP Client up to 14.1.428. The rftpcom.dll ActiveX control in Attachmate Reflection FTP Client before 14.1.429 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) and execute arbitrary code via vectors related to the (1) GetGlobalSettings or (2) GetSiteProperties3 methods, which triggers a dereference of an arbitrary memory address. NOTE: this issue was MERGED with CVE-2014-0606 because it is the same type of vulnerability, affecting the same set of versions, and discovered by the same researcher.
The weakness was released 02/06/2015 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) with Zero Day Initiative (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at zerodayinitiative.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-0603 since 12/28/2013. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 14.1.429 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13732.
