A vulnerability has been found in rsync 3.1.1 (File Transfer Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component Sync. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. rsync 3.1.1 allows remote attackers to write to arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a file in the synchronization path.
The weakness was presented 02/12/2015 as Bug 10977 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.samba.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-9512 since 01/05/2015.
