A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in F5 BIG-IP 10.0.0/10.2.4/11.0.0/11.2.1 (Firewall Software). XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability in sam/admin/vpe2/public/php/server.php in F5 BIG-IP 10.0.0 through 10.2.4 and 11.0.0 through 11.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary files via a crafted XML file.
The weakness was released 01/22/2013 by Stefan Viehböck with SEC Consult as 92 as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2997 since 05/30/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 11.2.0 HF3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at support.f5.com.
