A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in MediaWiki up to 1.19.23/1.23.8/1.24.1 (Content Management System). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component HTML Class. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Html class in MediaWiki before 1.19.24, 1.2x before 1.23.9, and 1.24.x before 1.24.2 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a LanguageConverter substitution string when using a language variant.
The weakness was published 03/31/2015 by Bawolff with iSEC Partners (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-2933 since 04/07/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

Upgrading to version 1.19.24, 1.23.9 or 1.24.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
