A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in MediaWiki up to 1.19.23/1.23.8/1.24.1 (Content Management System). Affected is an unknown function of the component SVG Filter. MediaWiki before 1.19.24, 1.2x before 1.23.9, and 1.24.x before 1.24.2 allows remote attackers to bypass the SVG filtering and obtain sensitive user information via a mixed case @import in a style element in an SVG file, as demonstrated by "@imporT."
The weakness was disclosed 03/31/2015 by Bawolff with iSEC Partners (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-2935 since 04/07/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82686 (Mandriva Linux Security Advisory : mediawiki (MDVSA-2015:200)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Mandriva Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13127 (Mediawiki Multiple Vulnerabilities (MediaWiki Security Release: 1.19.24, 1.23.9 and 1.24.2)).
Upgrading to version 1.19.24, 1.23.9 or 1.24.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
