A vulnerability has been found in Oracle Transportation Management 6.1/6.2 (Transport Management Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ssl3_read_n of the file d1_pkt.c of the component Install. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability.
The weakness was disclosed 04/14/2015 by Markus Stenberg with Cisco Systems as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - April 2015 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-3571 since 05/14/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 81303 (F5 Networks BIG-IP : OpenSSL vulnerability (SOL16123)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family F5 Networks Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185099 (HP-UX Running OpenSSL Multiple Vulnerabilities (HPSBUX03244)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
