A vulnerability was found in WordPress 3.9.3/4.1.1/4.1.2/4.2 (Content Management System). It has been declared as problematic. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in wp-includes/wp-db.php in WordPress before 4.2.1 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a long comment that is improperly stored because of limitations on the MySQL TEXT data type.
The weakness was disclosed 04/26/2015 by Klikki Oy as WordPress 4.2 Stored XSS as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at klikki.fi. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-3440 since 04/28/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

Upgrading to version 3.7.8, 3.8.8, 3.9.6, 4.0.3, 4.1.4 or 4.2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at wordpress.org. A possible mitigation has been published 1 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
