CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Libcontainer and Docker up to 1.6.0 (Virtualization Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component File Descriptor Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-59. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Libcontainer and Docker Engine before 1.6.1 opens the file-descriptor passed to the pid-1 process before performing the chroot, which allows local users to gain privileges via a symlink attack in an image.

The weakness was disclosed 05/18/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at groups.google.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3627 since 04/30/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83776 (Oracle Linux 6 / 7 : docker (ELSA-2015-3037)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350180 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for docker: ALAS-2015-522).

Upgrading to version 1.6.1 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (83776), SecurityFocus (BID 74558†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-50407†).
