The weakness was presented 05/19/2015 by Atte Kettunen (Cloudfuzzer) with Zero Day Initiative as Stable Channel Update, May 2015 as confirmed release notes (Website). The advisory is shared at googlechromereleases.blogspot.ch. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1259 since 01/21/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83784 (Debian DSA-3267-1 : chromium-browser - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 167838 (OpenSuSE Security Update for Chromium (openSUSE-SU-2015:0969-1)).

Upgrading to version 43.0.2357.65 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
