A vulnerability was found in Moodle up to 2.8.1 (Learning Management Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the file access.php of the component Essay Feedback Handler. access.php in the Lesson module in Moodle 2.8.x before 2.8.2 does not set the RISK_XSS bit for graders, which allows remote authenticated users to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via crafted essay feedback.
The weakness was shared 06/01/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at moodle.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-0216 since 11/18/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123327 (Fedora Security Update for moodle (FEDORA-2015-1751)).
Upgrading to version 2.8.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
