The udf_pc_to_char function in fs/udf/symlink.c in the Linux kernel before 3.18.2 relies on component lengths that are unused, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (system crash) via a crafted UDF filesystem image.
The weakness was released 06/03/2015 as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-9730 since 06/03/2015. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
