A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9/10/11 (Web Browser). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component History Handler. Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 through 11 allows remote attackers to read the browser history via a crafted web site.
The issue has been introduced in 03/16/2010. The weakness was presented 06/10/2015 with Microsoft as MS15-056 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-1765. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1911 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84053 (MS15-056: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (3058515)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100237 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS15-056)).
Applying the patch MS15-056 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
