A vulnerability was found in Nagios XI 2012R1.5b (Log Management Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file includes/components/autodiscovery/index.php. The manipulation of the argument address with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 02/03/2013 by James Clawson as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. The public release happened without coordination with the vendor. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation.
