Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in EMC RSA Archer GRC 5.2 (Risk Management System). Affected is an unknown functionality of the component Input Sanitizer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in EMC RSA Archer SmartSuite Framework 4.x and RSA Archer GRC 5.x before 5.2SP1 allows remote authenticated users to upload files, and consequently execute arbitrary code, via a relative path.
The weakness was released 02/03/2013 by Nello Coppeto with Emaze Networks as ESA-2013-002.txt as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2293 since 04/19/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The successful exploitation needs a authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 5.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityFocus (BID 57748†), OSVDB (89857†), Secunia (SA52067†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1028073†). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at VDB-7593, VDB-7594 and VDB-7595. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
