The NTFS implementation in Apple OS X before 10.10.4 allows attackers to obtain sensitive memory-layout information for the kernel via a crafted app.
The weakness was presented 06/30/2015 by Emil Kvarnhammar with Zero Day Initiative as HT204942 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-3711 since 05/07/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84488 (Mac OS X 10.10.x < 10.10.4 Multiple Vulnerabilities (GHOST) (Logjam)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123680 (Apple Mac OS X v10.10.4 and Security Update 2015-005 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-06-30-2)).
Upgrading to version 10.10.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
