Use-after-free vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and 10 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted web site that triggers access to a deleted object, aka "Internet Explorer CDispNode Use After Free Vulnerability."
The weakness was shared 02/12/2013 as MS13-009 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-0023 since 11/27/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 64570 (MS13-009: Security Update for Internet Explorer (2792100)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100136 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS13-009)).
Applying the patch KB2792100 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 12772.
