IBM DB2 9.7 through FP10, 9.8 through FP5, 10.1 before FP5, and 10.5 through FP5 on Linux, UNIX, and Windows allows remote authenticated users to read certain administrative files via crafted use of an automated-maintenance policy stored procedure.
The weakness was disclosed 07/14/2015 by Igor Kopylenko as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at www-304.ibm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1883 since 02/19/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84826 (IBM DB2 10.1 < Fix Pack 5 Multiple Vulnerabilities (Bar Mitzvah)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19986 (IBM DB2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21633303)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (84826), SecurityFocus (BID 75946†), SecurityTracker (ID 1032881†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-51713†). The entries VDB-13393, VDB-13392, VDB-13395 and VDB-68134 are pretty similar. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
