Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in IBM DB2 9.5/9.7/9.8/10.1/10.5 (Database Software). Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component XML/XSLT Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability (File). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
IBM DB2 9.7 through FP10, 9.8 through FP5, 10.1 before FP5, and 10.5 through FP5 on Linux, UNIX, and Windows allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary text files via a crafted XML/XSLT function in a SELECT statement.
The weakness was shared 07/14/2015 by Igor Kopylenko as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at www-304.ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-8910 since 11/14/2014. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1055 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84826 (IBM DB2 10.1 < Fix Pack 5 Multiple Vulnerabilities (Bar Mitzvah)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19986 (IBM DB2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21633303)).
