A vulnerability has been found in Google Chrome up to 43.0.2357.134 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file j2k.c of the component PDFium/OpenJPEG. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Heap-based buffer overflow in j2k.c in OpenJPEG before r3002, as used in PDFium in Google Chrome before 44.0.2403.89, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via invalid JPEG2000 data in a PDF document.

The weakness was shared 07/23/2015 by Chamal De Silva (Cloudfuzzer) with Baidu X-Team as Stable Channel Update, July 2015 as confirmed release notes (Blog). The advisory is available at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-1273 since 01/21/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/03/2022). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.
