A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.491/18.0.0.209 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The weakness was presented 08/11/2015 by Chris Evans, Ben Hawkes and Mateusz Jurczyk with Google Project Zero as APSB15-19 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-5133 since 06/26/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Google Security Research and been published 2 weeks after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 85325 (Adobe AIR <= 18.0.0.180 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-19)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168130 (OpenSuSE Security Update for flash-player (openSUSE-SU-2015:1781-1)).

Upgrading to version 11.2.202.508 or 18.0.0.232 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 20454.
