IBM Domino Server 8.5/9.0.1 Reflected cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in IBM Domino Server 8.5/9.0.1 (Groupware Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Reflected). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in pubnames.ntf (aka the Directory template) in the web server in IBM Domino before 9.0.0 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted URL, aka SPR KLYH8WBPRN.

The weakness was released 08/10/2015 by Adriano Marcio Monteiro with Brazuca Security as swg21963016 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-2015 since 02/19/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue. The advisory points out:

BM Domino Web Server is vulnerable to reflected cross-site scripting, caused by improper validation of user-supplied input. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability using a specially-crafted URL to execute script in a victim's Web browser within the security context of the hosting Web site, once the URL is clicked. An attacker could use this vulnerability to steal the victim's cookie-based authentication credentials.

Applying the patch 8.5.3 Fix Pack 6/9.0.1 Fix Pack 3 is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityFocus (BID 76376†), SecurityTracker (ID 1033271†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-53029†).
