The Certificate UI in Apple iOS before 8.4.1 does not prevent X.509 certificate acceptance within the lock screen, which allows physically proximate attackers to establish arbitrary certificate trust relationships by completing a dialog.
The weakness was presented 08/11/2015 by Cererdlong with Alibaba Mobile Security Team as HT205030 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-3756 since 05/07/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1211 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 8.4.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
