Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Microsoft Lync Server 2013 and Skype for Business Server 2015 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted URL, aka "Skype for Business Server and Lync Server XSS Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 09/08/2015 with Microsoft as MS15-104 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-2536 since 03/19/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 85849 (MS15-104: Vulnerabilities in Skype for Business Server and Lync Server Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (3089952)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91096 (Microsoft Skype for Business Server and Lync Server Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability (MS15-104)).
Applying the patch MS15-104 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
